Please describe your journey as a talented student athlete

“TASS was pivotal in my early development at the University of Bath as it replaced the GB program that was withdrawn in my first year of attendance due to funding. Without TASS, I would not have had the opportunity to train, be coached, have support services, and a training camp abroad.

“At this stage I learnt a lot about myself as well as professional sport. This was the beginning of a path that took many forms, but without the TASS experience I would've fallen behind, taken longer to reach a higher professional level through the years that followed and ultimately not been exposed to as many opportunities that professional sport has provided.

“Competing in the Commonwealth Games was a career highlight for me. As a student athlete, being able to simply train and compete and pursue goals of British Champion in my earlier years were fulfilling goals at the time.

“I believe pursuing a dual career is crucial. Whilst focus, energy and commitment to your sport is required, we must prepare for life after sport as the transition can be challenging. Having an understanding of how to take the skills acquired as an athlete into another field of expertise is important.

“You must realise your value and find fulfilment and challenge in your next chapter...just as you did in sport.”

What would be your wish for the next generation of talented athletes?

“Teach them how to market themselves - offer solutions for training and sustainability of their goals - put athletes young and experienced at the centre of decision making.”

Use one word to describe what TASS means to you.
