TASS has supported our ability to provide student athlete support…

University of Bath is an established home for a diverse range of high performance sports and athletes, and one of only six UK Sport Elite Training Centres. It was the first university in the UK to offer sports scholarships back in 1976, and has been a TASS Delivery Site since the scheme’s creation in 2004. This academic year, there are more than 30 TASS athletes receiving dual career support services from University of Bath.

What role has the TASS partnership played in the evolution of your performance sport programme?

“TASS has supported our ability to provide student athlete support, and has been an integral part of our holistic approach to development; it has given us the chance to commit more time and more people to supporting the pathway.

“We believe that a commitment to the individual athlete is central. A dual career is another term of supporting the individual in all of their endeavours. We don’t necessarily think in terms of dual career as simply a student athlete, it is more reflective of a high-quality approach to developing the whole person.

“For us, the best part of the job is working alongside high performing people, and seeing them develop as both practitioners and professionals.

“Dual career has always been central to our approach, and we are grateful that with TASS’s backing, we have had the opportunity to support so many talented students across the years.”

What would be your wish for the next generation of talented athletes?

“I hope that we learn to understand sport as more than a vehicle for material success.”

Use one word to describe what TASS means to you.

“Opportunity.”
